Unique Rippl-Rónai József Art Nouveau Chairs, circa 1900s
Four unique chairs in art nouveau style with carved walnut decor. The carved forms let the chairs be dated back to the 1900s artistic movements. The prolonged and sophisticated shapes, typical for the period, manifest the ideology of Gesamtkunstwerk. The ornamentics, the variety of solutions and artisanship in the details bring life to the walnut pieces. The stylised vegetative and elegant forms are uniquely designed. The undefined floral forms remind of designs by the arts and crafts masters, especially the Hungarian Nabi, József Rippl-Rónai, who has designed similar interior architecture elements on wallpapers and sideboards. (Images of sideboards ttached for reference.)
We are grateful for any further information and potential clues on the origin of the pieces.
